Residents to start moving into Moore townhomes by May

Maintenance-free living is on its way to Michigan City. Townhome residents of the Moore might move in as early as May.

The Moore will include villas, townhomes and single-family residences on an 8.59-acre site formerly owned by a church. Eight townhomes are scheduled for completion on the land between Michigan City and New Buffalo, and adjacent to Long Beach and Duneland Beach.

“The Moore is the only maintenance-free residential community in the area, with exterior home maintenance fully managed, including landscaping, snow removal, common areas, and optional services, making it especially attractive to downsizers and homeowners seeking a lock-and-leave lifestyle while remaining close to family, community and the Lake Michigan shoreline,” said Tony Macri of The Moore Development Group, in a press release.

Pyramid Properties developed the property.

Townhomes will have two layouts:

  • The Dunehaven, which includes three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, two-car garage, three-season room and open concept
  • The Retreat, which includes three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, one-car garage, three-season room and open concept

The Retreat's layout will start at $539,000.

“The Moore adds another facet to Michigan City’s housing options with a community that brings together townhomes and single-family offerings,” said Economic Development Corp. Michigan City Executive Director Clarence Hulse. “The city is seeing a surge in residential housing development that is trending to reach 2,000 units in the next five years.”

The housing development was launched in 2023 when Arkos Design in Mishawaka provided the planned unit development. Construction began in the fall. More townhome buildings of two to six units each are expected to be built by August.
