The 2023 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational Championship might prove to be more than a money maker for downtown Elkhart. The event is a contender for a national 2023 SportsTravel Award.
The Division I collegiate swim meet from March 9-11 drew about 1,000 competitors, along with coaches and spectators, to the Elkhart Health & Aquatics Center.
The Elkhart meet is one of five contenders for the Best Collegiate Sports Event Award. The 2022 College Football National Championship won the category last year.
An Elkhart County Convention & Visitors Bureau analysis shows that the meet resulted in more than $700,000 in revenue for the Elkhart business community, according to a press release. The CVB’s work with organizers, the CSCAA, the venue, hotels and business owners was key to the event’s success.
SportsTravel readers are allowed to vote once in each of six categories. Winners of the awards will be announced during the TEAMS ’23 conference from Oct. 2-5 in Florida.
The Elkhart County CVB is the official tourism organization for the county’s hospitality industry.
