Mrvan visits Hitachi Global Air Power in Michigan City

U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan presented CEO Hideki Fujimoto with a Congressional Certificate of Honor during a visit to Hitachi Global Air Power US's Michigan City facility.

“Our Michigan City facility plays a vital role in our global operations, and we are proud to invest in this community,” said Fujimoto, who is also president of Hitachi Global Air Power, in a press release. “Through innovation, sustainability efforts and collaboration with local stakeholders, we are building a stronger future together.”

The June 18 tour highlighted the importance of the company to the economic development of the area. Hitachi Global Air Power recently made a $30 million investment in a new 80,000- square-foot fabrication shop, a storage building and employee parking lot.

“Thank you to all of the leaders and employees with Hitachi Global Air Power for the opportunity to see firsthand the latest investments and innovations at your facility in Michigan City,” said Mrvan, who represents the first Indiana district, in a press release. “I am grateful for your dedication and commitment to the strength of Northwest Indiana’s economy, our workforce and our exemplary manufacturing capabilities.”

Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch and representatives from the Michigan City Chamber of Commerce also were on hand.

The company employs hundreds of workers, and partners with educational partners to foster workforce development.

“We are proud to partner with employers who not only create jobs but also actively support the quality of life that makes Michigan City special,” said Kurt Gillins, president of the Michigan City Chamber. “Congressman Mrvan's visit provides an excellent opportunity to highlight the innovation and economic impact happening right here in Michigan City every day.”

Hitachi also contributes to the community and environmental efforts on their Michigan City campus. The company recently earned a sustainability award for their efforts, and sponsored a mural on Michigan Boulevard.

“Hitachi Global Air Power has been an important part of Michigan City’s story for generations, and we are proud to see the company continuing to invest in its people, its facilities and our community,” Nelson Deuitch said. “These investments strengthen our local economy, create opportunities for our workforce, and reinforce Michigan City’s reputation as a place where advanced manufacturing continues to thrive.”

Parent company Hitachi Ltd. has locations around the world and employs about 280,000 people.
