The Lubeznik Center for the Arts cut the ribbon on a new mural July 30 at The Firehouse in La Porte.
The mural created by artist Felix Maldonado was supported by grants from the Health Foundation of La Porte, the La Porte Urban Enterprise Association and the City of La Porte.
“This mural is a masterpiece, and I hope the community will cherish it for years to come,” said Janet Bloch, LCA's Executive Director and facilitator of the project, in a press release.
Mayor Tom Dermody also was on hand to welcome the project.
“Lubeznik Center for the Arts has played a pivotal role in bringing more culture to our city, and this mural is a perfect example of what can happen when the community embraces such efforts,” Dermody said. “We are grateful to all the partners who helped make this amazing project a reality.”
Find the mural at 910 State St. in La Porte. The Lubeznik Center for the Arts is a nonprofit based in Michigan City. It was founded in 1978.
