Gov. Mike Braun honored 34 businesses Aug. 17 at the Governor’s Century and Half Century Business Awards in Indianapolis. Three are from North Central Indiana.
“These 34 businesses have been powering Indiana's economy for decades and are true examples of the Hoosier spirit and work ethic, demonstrating a remarkable commitment to their crafts, their customers and their communities,” Braun said in a press release.
Ancon Construction based in Goshen was one of the businesses honored for 50 years in business. The company transitioned to an employee stock ownership plan in 1999.
“Receiving the Governor’s Half Century Business Award is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the people who have shaped Ancon over the past 50 years,” said Ancon Construction CFO Rhett Fisher in a press release. “This recognition reflects the trust of our clients, the hard work of our employee owners and the strong relationships we have built throughout the communities we serve.”
Plymouth Foundry Inc. is celebrating 80 years in business and earned a Half Century Award.
“Reaching this 80-year milestone and receiving official recognition from the IEDC and the governor is an incredible honor, but we know we didn’t build this legacy alone,” according to the company's website.
Nuway Construction, which also won a Half Century Award, agreed with that sentiment.
“A milestone like this doesn’t happen by accident,” said Andy Nesbitt, president of Nuway Construction. “It takes generations of great employees, customers, partners and leaders who have helped make Nuway what it is today.”
Organizations that earned Half Century Awards include:
- Employee-owned Ancon Construction in Goshen serves Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. Founded in 1975 in Elkhart County
- Community-centered Nuway Construction in Goshen also serves the Michiana area. It has completed more than 1,500 projects. Founded in 1975 in Elkhart County
- Family-owned Plymouth Foundry Inc. opened in 1946 in the same Plymouth location. The iron foundry serves customers across the country. Founded in 1946 in Marshall County
“This year’s Century and Half Century Award winners include anchors of Indiana Main Streets, growing innovators and nationally recognized corporations, demonstrating the success and longevity of Hoosier businesses and their impact on the state,” said Indiana Secretary of Commerce Chuck Goodrich.
