Landmark Recovery CEO Matt Boyle says making its Praxis treatment facilities in Indiana gender specific has proven beneficial for patients.
The Praxis treatment center in South Bend is male only, while the facility in Fort Wayne treats women only.
“Landmark Recovery’s Praxis facilities in Indiana becoming gender specific helps address the unique challenges faced by women and men in their battle against addiction,” said Boyle, co-founder of Tennessee-based Landmark Recovery, in a press release. “With this gender-focused approach, we are creating environments that are even more conducive to concentrated healing and trauma recovery.”
The substance abuse treatment facilities offer 20 hours of intense therapy each week as part of this “trauma-informed” method.
Since the change, facilities noted a decrease in “critical actions.”
“We’re excited to see that our tailored approach has shown early success,” Boyle said. “We are dedicated to creating secure and supportive spaces for our patients, where they can fully engage in their treatment journey. Our objective is to enhance treatment experiences through focused discussions and therapeutic activities.”
The National Institute on Drug Abuse reports that men and women deal with addiction in different ways, which was a factor in Landmark Recovery’s decision to separate the genders. The organization reported that men are more likely to die from an overdose than women, according to data from 2020-2022.
Landmark Recovery, which founded in 2016, offers detox, residential, outpatient and partial hospitalization services. The company employs more than 800 people in 14 treatment centers around the country.
