Centier Bank celebrated the renovation of its downtown South Bend branch during a ribbon cutting Jan. 22.
The branch’s upgrade in the historic JMS Building at 108 N. Main St. included 1,319 square feet of additional office space, which connects to the retail space. The lobby was expanded with another teller line. It also included a more modern design similar to other newer Centier branches.
“Unlike some banks, we want to preserve the downtown areas of our communities, and that’s an important part of why we did this remodel,” said Mike Schrage, Centier Bank chief executive officer and chairman of the board, in a press release. “We’re committed to being Indiana’s largest private, family-owned bank for generations to come, and welcome our clients to our newly renovated space and hope they enjoy it as much as we do.”
The downtown South Bend branch opened in 2017, but Centier Bank first entered the Michiana market in 2006 with a loan production office in Mishawaka. The bank now also has locations in Elkhart, Granger, Goshen and Plymouth, along with South Bend and Mishawaka.
Chris Campbell, Centier Bank president, said the bank has invested almost $1 billion in the South Bend area.
“We are extremely grateful to the city of South Bend and everyone who has helped us along the way,” Campbell said. “We look forward to many more years together in perpetuity.”
Mayor James Mueller is grateful for the commitment to the area.

We appreciate Centier and have always been aware of the great things you’re working on and the great projects you’re supporting for our businesses, residents and entrepreneurs alike,” Mueller said. “We appreciate your presence here and recommitment here in downtown South Bend — we’re very excited for you.”
