Cornerstone Alliance earns $3.6M grant from MEDC

The Michigan Economic Development Corp. granted Berrien County’s Cornerstone Alliance a $3.6 million grant through the Michigan Strategic Site Readiness Program.

The economic development organization will use the funds to invest in the industrial property at 2274 Yore Ave. in Benton Charter Township. The grant’s eligibility requirements included site improvement, infrastructure upgrades, environmental study and predevelopment work.

“This MEDC investment directly benefits all residents of Southwest Michigan,” said Rob Cleveland, president and CEO of Cornerstone Alliance, in a press release. “We have more than 280 acres of flat, shovel-ready, utility-ready, industrial-zoned, site-certified real estate.”

Cathy Yates, supervisor at Benton Charter Township, said the development that was 10 years in the making will attract jobs.

“This program will allow us to develop and promote many sites that have become more attractive with the recent completion of US 31,” Cleveland said. “There is no shortage of projects worthy of MEDC funding.”
