Indiana’s jobless rate for October falls to 5%

The number of people out of work continues to fall in Indiana.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics data, reported the state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate in October was 5%, down from 6.3% in October. The state’s jobless rate in October 2019 was 3.2%

The state’s labor force in October totaled 3,353,337, with 3,192,625 employed and 160,712 unemployed. In September, the state’s labor force was 3,343,358, with 3,147,845 employed and 195,513 out of work.

Jobless rates in some of the state’s major metro areas also fell in October when compared to September.

In the Elkhart-Goshen area, the jobless rate in October was 4.2% down from 5.2% in September.

The Gary area’s jobless rate was 6.3% in October, down from 7.8% in September.

The Michigan City-La Porte area’s jobless rate in October was 6.3%, down from 7.6% in September.

The South Bend-Mishawaka’s jobless rate in October was 5%, down from 6% in September.
