Members Advantage CU offers free shredding

Members Advantage Credit Union will host a free shred day on June 13 in Michigan City.

A mobile shredding truck destory sensitive documents securely from 9 a.m. till noon, or the truck is full, at the 3064 Ohio St. branch.

“Shred Day is a simple but important way we can help people protect themselves from fraud and identity theft,” said Frank Beachnau, president of Members Advantage Credit Union, in a press release. “We are glad to provide this service to the community and encourage everyone to take advantage of this safe and convenient opportunity.”

The credit union is partnering with the Michigan City Salvation Army. Donations up to $125 will be matched by Members Advantage.

The first-come, first-served event accepts up to three boxes or bags per participant.

Accepted documents for shredding include:

  • Tax information and returns
  • Investment records and statements
  • Insurance and utility bills
  • ATM and credit card receipts
  • Paycheck stubs
  • Bank statements
  • Canceled checks
  • Personal documents
  • Credit card statements

No CDs, videotapes or cardboard boxes will be accepted. Learn more about the event here.
