To meet a growing need for radiologists, John Patrick University of Health and Applied Sciences in South Bend is launching a new hybrid program to offer a new pathway to employment.
The Limited Scope Radiography Bridge Program will give licensed professionals who perform basic X-rays under the supervision of a physician or fully licensed technologist a pathway to the university's Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology Program. The program takes into consideration a student's education and skills, including the possibility of 21 credits, either transferred or tested out.
“This bridge creates a new opportunity for limited scope radiographers who are ready to advance their careers and take on a broader role in medical imaging,” said Brent Murphy, founder and CEO at John Patrick University, in a press release. “We’re recognizing the knowledge and experience these professionals already have while providing the additional education and clinical training required to become full-scope radiologic technologists.”
More radiologists are needed as urgent care and outpatient centers become more popular, according to the university.
The program is designed for adults who are working and need a flexible online component to upskilling their skills. The program, which includes supervised clinical education, can be completed in 16 months. That timeline depends on the number of transfer credits and other factors.
Graduates who earn an Associate of Science in radiologic technology can apply for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Radiography Certification Examination. Learn more about the program here.
