The Economic Development Corp. of Michigan City celebrated 30 years of serving its community at its annual business awards ceremony July 29 at the Blue Chip Casino Hotel & Spa.
“Our awards are a platform to celebrate our business community and regional leaders who are adding to the economic development energy and synergy that continue to gain momentum here in Michigan City,” said EDCMC Executive Director Clarence Hulse in a press release. “We have even more to mark this year as it is the EDCMC’s 30th anniversary.”
Michigan City native Scott Dolson, Indiana University vice president and director of athletics, was a special guest speaker.
“We are honored to welcome Scott to share his leadership story and inspire our community to take the hard steps needed to break through to new goals and accomplishments,” Hulse said.
The Michigan City Project of the Year was bestowed on Flaherty & Collins for its work on The Franklin at 11th Street Station, a restoration project that went from just a parking garage to a mixed-use apartment community.
Phoenix Awards also spotlighted businesses that transformed existing spaces, including:

Pat Boy and Tom Edwards were honored with leadership awards, and Maggi Spartz and Don Babcock earned Economic Development Lifetime Achievement Awards.
