Troman Industries in Elkhart introduced a new way for transit companies to detect and prevent vehicle fires. Its Trident system monitors vehicle temperatures to alert and automatically start measures to suppress fires.
“Historically, transit systems have been forced into a ‘let it burn’ scenario,” said Brandon Curtis, EVP of sales, business and product development, in a press release. “By the time a problem is detected, it’s often too late to save the vehicle. Trident changes that by identifying risks earlier and giving agencies more time to act.”

The cloud-based platform offers continual monitoring and SMS/email alerts.
“This is not just suppression,” said Troman CEO Tony Cunnane. “This is prevention, intelligence and response working together.”
The technology is especially relevant because of the transition to lithium-ion battery systems, Troman reported. These “thermal events” can result in losses upwards of $1.5 million a vehicle.
Troman Industries is a privately held company based in Elkhart.
