MPD Pool Holdings acquires Bontrager Pools

MPD Pool Holdings of Chicago, Illinois, recently acquired Bontrager Pools, which has served the Michiana area for 45-plus years.

The sale expands MPD's reach into the luxury pool and outdoor living market.

Since 1977, Donald Bontrager and Dustin Lockwood have offered custom pool options in the Michiana area. The two were ready to transition out of the business, so they engaged Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Calder Capital to find the right buyer.

“I’m not really sure about retirement yet. I enjoy working, but this relieves some of the stress owning a business gives you,” Lockwood said in a press release. “I will probably spend more time at our lake house and time with family for a while. Then possibly start something else up — never know.”

The acquisition process started in August and ended in December.

“MPD is excited about the acquisition of Bontrager Pools and believes we can build on its long history of being an award-winning pool company,” said Mychal Manolatos of MPD Pool Holdings. “Also, Don and Dustin were great sellers to work with, and we are proud to be able to carry on their legacy.”

MPD is a holding company that develops service businesses.

“I am confident that under MPD's stewardship, Bontrager Pools will reach new heights of success,” said Matt Uhl of Calder Capital, who served as the lead mergers and acquisitions adviser to Bontrager Pools.

Bontrager Pools employs 62 people and has locations in Elkhart and South Bend. The transaction's terms were undisclosed.
