HealthLinc sets opening date for Michigan City clinic

HealthLinc will open its new 39,000-square-feet health center in Michigan City on March 4.

The facility at 200 Alfred St. will include 33 medical exam rooms, two procedure rooms and 12 dental rooms. Health professionals will provide medical, dental, optometry and podiatry services, along with a full-service pharmacy.

“The new HealthLinc Michigan City clinic is a shining example of our commitment to providing exceptional health care to our communities,” said Melissa Mitchell, HealthLinc CEO, in a press release. “The new clinic allows us to expand our reach and increase accessibility and services. Our dedication to innovation, quality care and patient-centered approach drives us forward, and we are excited to continue making a positive impact on the health and well-being of those we serve.”

The clinic also will provide addiction services, medical legal assistance and help enrolling in insurance.

“We take pride in delivering health care the way it should be delivered, centered around the patient and in a way that supports health equity,” Mitchell said. “Access to affordable, high-quality health care is a basic right everyone should have and is at the heart of our mission.”

According to the Health Resources & Services Administration, HealthLinc served 42,083 patients in 2022, up from 30,239 in 2018.

The clinic also will partner with Ivy Tech to train students for the health care workforce. The facility sits behind Ivy Tech Community College. It was estimated to cost $15 million when ground was broken on the facility in 2022.

“Our Michigan City leaders continue to work toward economic inclusion throughout all facets of our quality-of-life offerings, from health care and workforce development to education opportunities and beyond,” said Clarence Hulse, Economic Development Corp. Michigan City executive director. “HealthLinc’s new space and continued commitment to providing care to all of our community members are vital to how we can create the economic inclusion that we are working toward every day.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. April 2, with an open house to follow until 6 p.m.

The clinic will officially begin receiving patients at 8 a.m. March 4. The nonprofit Federally Qualified Health Center offers many health services regardless of a person’s ability to pay.

HealthLinc is a National Quality Leader and ranks in the top 10% for high-quality care across the country.

HealthLinc opened Hilltop Neighborhood House in 1996 in Valparaiso. Since then, it has expanded to 12 offices, two telehealth clinics, and a mobile health and dental clinic. The Michigan City clinic first opened in 2008 at 710 Franklin St.
