Board chooses Franciscan Health Michigan City leader

Franciscan Health Michigan City welcomed its first new leader since the hospital moved from its longtime location to 3500 Franciscan Way.

Dean Mazzoni led that move in 2019, but he left in April to lead McLaren Greater Lansing in Michigan, according to LinkedIn. The medical center has 240 acute care beds. He joined Franciscan Health Michigan City in 2016.

Dr. Stacey Leva now will lead Franciscan Health Michigan City into its next chapter. Leva served as interim before the Franciscan Alliance board of trustees appointed her president and CEO of the hospital earlier this year.

Leva was officially welcomed to the leadership role during a Missioning Ceremony last week. The event including a blessing as part of Franciscan's Catholic healthcare ministry.

“I look forward to continuing to uphold the 150-year mission of the Franciscan Alliance healthcare ministry while leading us forward in caring for our co-workers, patients and communities with dignity and compassion,” Leva said in a press release.

Leva also will help oversee locations in La Porte and Porter counties.

Leva most recently served as the Franciscan Alliance’s corporate vice president for Franciscan ACO. She also worked at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The Franciscan Alliance, founded in 1875, includes 11 nonprofit hospital campuses and employs more than 16,000 people.
