The YMCA of Greater Michiana is ready to register children for its new childcare center. The 10,000-square-foot facility is expected to open in January.
The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County granted the YMCA of Greater Michiana $250,000 for the childcare center in downtown South Bend. The center will offer full-time care for up to 100 children from 6 weeks old through preschool.
“We’re excited to begin registering families and getting to know the children and parents who will be part of our new center,” said Kelly Doherty, director of the Downtown South Bend Early Learning Center, in a press release. “Opening a child care center takes a lot of preparation, but this is the point when it starts to feel real. We’re looking forward to welcoming families, answering their questions and helping them get ready for January.”
The center at 111 W. Jefferson Blvd. will be open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Caregivers will use the HighScope curriculum.
The center will fill an immediate need in St. Joseph County. According to Early Learning Indiana’s “Foundations for the Future: Indiana’s Childcare Access Report,” only 67% of children whose parents need childcare have access to programs.
Tuition ranges from $200 to $415 a week. YMCA members receive a discount. Learn about enrollment here.
