La Casa de Amistad receives $25,000 grant

South Bend-based community organization La Casa de Amistad has received a grant from Comcast to support digital skills training in Michiana.

This marks the third year Comcast has supported La Casa de Amistad’s digital assistance program. The initiative aims to help adults build essential computer skills ranging from navigating online job applications to creating resumes. Comcast also donated 25 laptops to recent program graduates, equipping them to continue developing their digital growth.

“Comcast’s ongoing investment will allow us to sustain and grow our digital programming,” said Juan Constantino, La Casa de Amistad CEO, in a press release. “Whether it’s accessing their child’s school portal or applying for a new job, our graduates develop life-changing skills that are essential to thrive in today’s digital world.”

Patrick McGuire, City of South Bend director of civic innovation, thanked Comcast for investing in the community. McGuire said the digital assistance program is a vital resource for the city’s residents.

“La Casa de Amistad’s digital assistance program is helping to close the digital divide in Michiana by equipping community members with the skills they need to access employment opportunities and vital online services,” Grace Hong Duffin, Comcast regional vice president of external and government affairs, said. “We’re proud to continue supporting an organization that shares our commitment to advancing digital opportunity.”

The grant and laptop donations to La Casa de Amistad are part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to advance digital opportunity. Over the past three years, Comcast has made a total of over $3 million in cash and in-kind donations to Indiana nonprofits.
