Comcast expands network in Michiana

Comcast announced the extension of its high-speed internet network in La Porte and Porter counties.

The expansion brings Comcast’s services to over 200 previously unserved homes throughout Union and Jackson Townships in Porter County and Galena, Kankakee, New Durham and Springfield Townships in La Porte County.

Comcast’s expansion in Northwest Indiana was completed in partnership with the State of Indiana’s Next Level Connections Broadband Grant Program. The program has invested $350 million toward improving broadband access and adoption in the state.

“We are working to ensure that every Hoosier has access to high-speed, reliable, affordable broadband,” said Steve Cox, Indiana’s chief broadband officer, in a press release. “Connecting every corner of our state will provide economic mobility and opportunities as we close the digital divide.”

Comcast has invested nearly $600 million in its network in Indiana over the last three years. The company has over 49,000 miles of fiber network infrastructure across Indiana and over 65,500 WiFi hotspots in the state.

“La Porte County is more connected than ever because of the collaboration and recent investment from both internet service providers and government initiatives,” Connie Gramarossa, La Porte County Board of Commissioners president, said.
