Benton Harbor-based Cornerstone Alliance has released a blueprint for economic growth and development in Berrien County.
The board of directors approved the 2025 Strategic Action Plan March 18.
“Cornerstone Alliance has been a trusted part of this community for decades, and this plan reflects our enduring commitment to its growth,” said John Janick, board of directors chairman, in a press release. “With a talented and experienced team in place, we’re more energized than ever to get to work and deliver real results for Berrien County.”
The plan is centered around four strategic priorities: economic development, community development, sites and assets development and housing resource development.
Economic development efforts will focus on supporting Berrien County’s businesses through retention, expansion and attraction initiatives. Cornerstone Alliance will engage with employers, host industry programs and align recruitment efforts with local site readiness.
In community development, the organization will expand its work with municipalities to support downtown revitalization, waterfront redevelopment and placemaking projects.
The sites and assets development strategy will aim to ensure that industrial, commercial and residential properties across Berrien County are positioned for future growth. Through site assessments and partnerships with state and federal agencies, Cornerstone Alliance will help accelerate project development and infrastructure improvements.
The plan also introduces a new housing resource development initiative. This includes commissioning a county-wide housing study, supporting zoning reform and creating a resource within Cornerstone Alliance to guide municipalities and developers through housing-related opportunities.
“This plan sets the stage for how we show up—for our communities, our partners and our future,” Marla Schneider, Cornerstone Alliance CEO, said. “We’ve realigned our internal structure to match the scale of our mission, and we’re doing it with clarity, collaboration and a strong sense of purpose.”
