A one-of-a-kind air compressor built by Michigan City-based Sullair is making its way to a charity auction.

The company said it is donating a pink 185 Series Tier 4 Final Portable Air Compressor to the ARA Foundation Charity Auction. Sullair also will make a separate donation to support breast cancer awareness and research, contributing 25% of the final auction price, up to $7,500, to Susan G. Komen Chicago.

“Since our founding more than 55 years ago, Sullair has committed to giving back to our local communities,” said John Randall, president and CEO of Sullair. “By partnering with organizations like the ARA Foundation and Susan G. Komen Chicago, it is gratifying to know that our donation will help the ARA Foundation create additional opportunities for the rental industry and Susan G. Komen continue its mission of eradicating breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.”

Sullair recently held an event in Michigan City where its employees signed a unit panel with notes of encouragement for those fighting breast cancer and memories in honor of those who lost.

“We’re honored Sullair is partnering with our organization to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month and work to put an end to breast cancer,” said Beth White Carona, executive director, Susan G. Komen Chicago. “Each year, over 270,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with breast cancer and over 40,000 lose their lives to the disease.”

The pink Sullair compressor, valued at $25,000, is powered by a 49 hp Perkins 404F-E22T diesel engine. The unit delivers 185 cfm of air at 100 psi and is the most popular Sullair compressor for rental businesses, the company said.

The pink canopy was developed in-house in the new Sullair Michigan City-based fabrication shop with pink powder coat paint donated by PPG.

The ARA Foundation Charity Auction will be held online from Oct. 14 through Oct. 25. Founded in 1976, The ARA Foundation has sponsored a scholarship program, disaster relief programs, a technical training grant program and young professional development.

The last ARA Foundation Charity Auction and Reception, held in 2019, raised $100,610 following 36 donations by exhibitors. Sullair donated a 185 Tier 4 Final portable compressor custom pained by Curly’s Inc., a custom bike and hot rod shop in Northwest Indiana, which raised $22,500.

This is the fourth year Sullair has participated in the auction.
