Governor visits Hitachi Global Air Power facility in Michigan City

Gov. Eric Holcomb stopped by the Michigan City location of Hitachi Global Air Power US as part of the “I Make America” program.

The program is an initiative of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. It encourages elected officials to visit equipment manufacturers.

“Gov. Holcomb’s visit underscores the importance of a strong partnership between industry and government in advancing manufacturing in Indiana,” said John Randall, president and CEO of Hitachi Global Air Power, in a press release. “We are proud to showcase our world-class manufacturing facility where we have been building Sullair air compressors for more than five decades, and we look forward to many more years of shared prosperity for both our business and the thriving Michigan City community.”

The manufacturer of compressed air solutions employs more than 500 people in Indiana.

Sullair, which was founded in 1965, was acquired by Hitachi Ltd. in 2017 and renamed Hitachi Global Air Power in 2023. The company continues to manufacture products under the Sullair brand name.

Holcomb visited with the facility's leaders, toured the location and talked with employees.

“Hitachi Global Air Power has a long history of manufacturing state-of-the-art air compressors right here in Indiana,” Holcomb said. “Because of Indiana’s relentless efforts to lessen tax burdens, streamline government bureaucracy, and support Indiana’s business community, companies like Hitachi Global Air Power can continue innovating, manufacturing and investing in the Hoosier state.”

Kate Fox Wood, vice president of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, agreed that the state is friendly to companies.

“Equipment manufacturers are proud to support over 138,000 jobs in Indiana and contribute more than $18.2 billion annually to the state economy,” Wood said. “Gov. Holcomb’s efforts to create a business-friendly environment that helps — not hurts — job creators are critically important to the future success of this industry in the state.”

Hitachi Global Air Power operates ISO 9001 certified factories in Michigan City; and Suzhou, China; and sales offices in Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia, and South and Latin America.
