Vanair plans 100,000-square-foot expansion at Michigan City facility

Michigan City-based Vanair Manufacturing Inc. plans to expand its facilities by 100,000 square feet in La Porte County. The project is expected to create 75 new jobs.

The $8.3 million expansion includes a new building at the air compressor manufacturing facility at 10896 W. 300 North in Michigan City.

“We are thrilled to embark on this exciting expansion project and contribute to the economic development of La Porte County,” said Ralph Kokot, CEO of Vanair Manufacturing Inc. in a press release. “Our company has experienced remarkable growth over the past 15 years, and this expansion will enable us to meet the increasing demand for our products while creating new employment opportunities.”

 J. Shoffner General Contractor Inc. of La Porte is constructing the building that is expected to be complete late this year.

The La Porte County Council unanimously approved a confirmatory Economic Revitalization Area as proposed in an April resolution.

“We are proud to be a part of the air compressor hub of the U.S. here in Northwest Indiana,” said Greg Kokot, president of Vanair Manufacturing Inc. “We are grateful for the collaborative efforts that have put us on the map and allowed our business to thrive. This expansion will allow us to better serve our customers and further contribute to the local economy.”

Vanair, which was founded in 1972, employs 160 people. It offers products such as air compressors, generators, welders, battery chargers and engine starters.
