Fans of University of Notre Dame football games and other travelers flying through South Bend International Airport have more dining options, and more are on the way.
Officials gathered Sept. 29 for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate recent restaurant openings before and after security checks. In the last month, Dunkin’ Donuts, Jimmy John’s and The Lauber Overlook, a locally owned bar, opened to serve airport patrons and guests.
“The timing of the opening to coincide with the Notre Dame football season was intentional,” said Mike Daigle, South Bend International Airport’s CEO and executive director, in a press release.
The airport has partnered with South Dakota-based Sky Dine to introduce new food and drink options. The focus has been on local partnerships.
“Our partnership with The Lauber is a great example of what can be accomplished when local businesses, the airport and our team come together with a shared vision,” said Austin Sejnoha, executive vice president of Sky Dine, in a press release.
Sky Dine and airport officials have plans to open more options in 2027.
“As we move into phase two, we look forward to continuing to build those relationships, expanding our local partnerships, and creating even more opportunities to bring local businesses, brand, and products into Sky Dine’s growing food, beverage and retail program at SBN,” Sejnoha said.
The airport features two Dunkin' Donuts. One for passengers after they go through security, and one near the South Shore Line for before and after their flights.
The Lauber Overlook, the airport's first bar, overlooks both the airfield and gates. It sits between gates six and seven. The bar especially welcomes Notre Dame football fans with specialty cocktails, including Wake Up the Echoes, and the Blue and Gold Rush.
Phase two plans include The Lauber restaurant and Bend Market & Brews. Both will occupy existing spaces at the airport and are expected to open in 2027.
Local project partners include Earnest Hospitality, Merrillville-based OA Nevan Construction, and Abonmarche.
