Beacon Health System investing $23M in Three Rivers building

Three Rivers Health isn't taking any chances with a new 27,000-square-foot building on its medical campus. The $23 million Beacon Health System facility will mostly be built off site to avoid weather-related delays.

The medical office building in Three Rivers, Michigan, will replace three buildings that were damaged in a severe March storm that included a tornado. Nine buildings were damaged by wind.

“While no one would have chosen the circumstances that brought us to this point, this new medical office building is truly a silver lining to the storm,” said Maria Behr, president of Three Rivers Health, in a press release. “This is a generational opportunity for our community. We are creating a beautiful, modern space where patients can receive care and where our physicians, providers and associates can deliver that care in an environment designed to support them.”

The new one-story facility is expected to open next spring. It will include a Rural Health Clinic that will provide family medicine, internal medicine, and obstetrics and gynecological providers. Other services will include hematology and oncology, an infusion center and a hyperbaric chamber in a wound care clinic.

The Schimnoski Building, the Center For Wound Healing and the ProMed building will be demolished in August. Six other buildings have already been repaired.

“We didn’t miss a beat,” said Behr. “Even in the immediate aftermath of the (storm), the hospital remained 100% operational. While our clinics were temporarily relocated, we worked hard to keep care as close to home as possible for our patients.”

Bildt, an industrial construction fabricator, will partner with Three Rivers Health to build modular components at its Wisconsin manufacturing facility.

“The industrialized construction approach helps us minimize disruptions on campus and gives us greater certainty around timelines, allowing us to return displaced clinics, providers and services to a permanent home sooner,” Behr said.

Beacon Health System employs more than 12,000 people at hospitals and medical facilities in Northern Indiana and Southwest Michigan.
