The new $12 million Holy Cross Hall will welcome its first students on move-in day Aug. 21.
The first new building on the Holy Cross College campus in a decade will welcome 110 students its first fall.
Ground broke on the 29,000-square-foot residence hall at Notre Dame in May 2025. It includes single and double-occupancy rooms.
“This isn’t just a construction project — it’s a bold step forward,” said Board of Trustees Chair John Gschwind at the groundbreaking. “We are building not just for today, but for generations of Saints to come. This hall reflects purposeful planning, student voice and a deep investment in community.”
Three resident assistants will lead the first year and help establish traditions for the three-story residence hall. Each Holy Cross residence hall has its own motto, patron saint, colors, crest and mascot.
“This project affirms our belief that the daily rhythm of residential life … is central to student formation,” President Marco Clark said. “These aren’t just rooms. They are spaces of encounter — where students will grow in faith, friendship and purpose.”
The first floor includes a community lounge, full kitchen and a conference room. A chapel is expected to be completed this fall. The second and third floors feature lounges for studying and commiserating, along with a laundry room.
Holy Cross College at Notre Dame was founded in 1966 on a 70-acre wooded campus. It enrolls about 600 undergraduates.
