Amazon hiring 120 seasonal workers for South Bend delivery site

With the Christmas holidays around the corner, online giant Amazon is preparing for an increase in orders from consumers.

This includes hiring a 480 seasonal workers for its delivery stations in South Bend and Gary. About 120 hires will be made in South Bend and 360 for Gary, a company representative said.

The Seattle-based company said it will hire 5,400 seasonal workers in Indiana, part of its effort to hire 100,000 seasonal employees this year in the U.S. and Canada.

Some Amazon hires either transition to part- or full-time rolls with the company after the holiday peak.

The seasonal positions have an hourly rate of $15. The jobs will include stowing, picking, packing, shipping, and delivering customer orders, as well as other positions including managing people, being a safety ambassador, working in HR, IT and operating robotics.

Since the onset of the pandemic, Amazon has invested about $800 million in its facilities to provide a safe workplace. The company has made more than 150 process changes including providing personal protective equipment, enhanced cleaning, staggered and flexible shifts, revisions at workstations, and developing in-house COVID-19 testing capabilities.
