Heroes Gallery to open in Michigan City

The Heroes Gallery – Arcade – Museum is celebrating its opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony May 23.

The new arcade, theatre, toy museum and comic art gallery is at the Lighthouse Place Premium Outlets in Michigan City. It was created by The Graf Dairy Hero Foundation.

The Michigan City Chamber is hosting the ribbon cutting. The event will close with an invitation-only gala in the evening.

The Heroes Gallery showcases a collection of vintage superhero memorabilia from the 1960s, 70s and 80’s. The collection is part of the Graf Dairy Hero Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to inspire young people to heroic character virtues including courage, responsibility, integrity and doing right in the face of peer pressure.

The collection features over 6,000 items. Visitors can see original character art by artists of the era, play vintage arcade games and take selfies with superhero statues. They can also view rare items like a 1966 comic book vending machine, Stan Lee’s first office sign and the working papers for the original lyrics for the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon theme song.

Mark Ditko, nephew of the co-creator of Spider-Man Steve Ditko, will be at the Heroes Gallery to talk about comic books, his uncle and Spider-Man 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 24.

Friday also kicks off the annual Memorial Day Sidewalk Sales at Lighthouse Place Premium Outlets. Over 20 stores are participating, and many stores are offering pop-up deals.
