The Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce honored seven local minority businesses and individuals Nov. 13.
The chamber’s Business Diversity Initiative hosted its Celebrating Minority Business Excellence dinner. More than 250 guests gathered at the Crystal Ballroom at the Lerner Theatre to recognize the hard work, dedication and accomplishments of minority businesses in the community.
The chamber honored seven minority businesses and individuals:
- Communications: El Puente
- Nonprofit Leadership: Pastor Cora Brown
- Restaurant: Great Wall Chinese Restaurant
- Health care: Dr. Orlando Landrum
- Service: Samuel Kamwenji
- Community Impact: Cyneatha Millsaps
- Retail: AG Mart/Dolly’s
Panelists spoke about overcoming the challenges of starting and operating a business. They also discussed the business resources that are available in the Region with Bethany Hartley, South Bend-Elkhart Regional Partnership; Dr. Redgina Hill, Saint Mary’s College; Maria Rojas, Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce; and Gudelia Paula Sours, Northern Indiana Minority Business Association.
The Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce seeks to promote and strengthen the Greater Elkhart business community. The chamber has more than 900 members representing over 42,000 employees.
