The jobless rates in some Northern Indiana metro areas increased slightly in June.
The Elkhart-Goshen area jobless rate in June was 3.4%, up from 3.2% from May but down from 9.5% in June 2020, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics data reported.
June’s jobless rate in the Michigan City-La Porte area was 6.2% in June, down from 6.3% in May and down from 8.9% in June 2020.
The South Bend-Mishawaka jobless rate in June was 5.1%, up from 5% in May but down from 11.8% in June 2020.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics data, reported private sector employment across the state increased by 123,500 over the year and has increased 8,900 from May. Indiana's total labor force, which includes both Hoosiers employed and those seeking employment, stood at 3.35 million in June, and the state’s 63.2% labor force participation rate was above the national rate of 61.6%.
The state’s jobless rate in June was 4.1%, up from 4% in May but down from 10.1% in June 2020.
The June jobless rate in the Gary area fell in June to 7%, down from 7.4% in May and down from 13.9% in June 2020.
