South Bend-based Boling Vision Center has started offering Valeda Light Therapy to treat Age-Related Macular Degeneration, the leading cause of vision loss in the United States.
Valeda Light Therapy uses non-invasive photobiomodulation—low-level light therapy to stimulate retinal cells, improve mitochondrial function and reduce waste buildup that contributes to vision loss.
Age-Related Macular Degeneration is a progressive eye disease that causes blurred central vision. It affects nearly 20 million adults over age 40 in the U.S.
“For years, patients with dry AMD have had very limited options to slow vision loss. Valeda changes that,” said Dr. Whitney Boling, Boling Vision Center ophthalmologist, in a press release.
“It’s not just treatment—it’s hope,” Boling said. “It gives us a way to support retinal cells and, for many patients, preserve or even improve vision before invasive measures like injections are needed. This is truly revolutionary for our patients.”
Boling Vision Center has served Michiana since 1960. It is a third-generation, family-owned practice.
