Wightman earns surveying award for part in $66M Niles project

A Niles, Michigan, project earned Wightman a Surveying Merit Award at the American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan 2026 Engineering and Surveying Excellence Awards Gala.

The March 7 event at the Fillmore Detroit in Detroit, Michigan, recognized engineering and surveying firms for complex projects that show innovation and value.

“The infrastructure improvements engineered by ACEC member firms significantly improve the daily lives of Michigan residents and visitors,” said Ronald Brenke, ACEC/Michigan executive director, in a press release. “Their talent and expertise were on display at the gala as various types of projects were recognized and celebrated.”

Wightman also earned two Engineering Merit Awards for projects in Kalamazoo.

“Receiving three Merit Awards from ACEC/Michigan is a tremendous honor for Wightman,” said Steve Carlisle, Wightman’s president. “What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that the award-winning projects reflect the full breadth of our core services: engineering, architecture and surveying.”

The $66 million American Electric Power project in Niles required Wightman's surveying services, including easement review, encroachment surveys, design support, construction staking and as-built verification. The project is modernizing the electric grid in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana. The network is 44 miles.

Wightman employs more than 200 people and has 0ffices in Allegan, Benton Harbor, Hastings, Kalamazoo, Royal Oak, Southgate and South Haven, Michigan, as well as Fort Wayne, Plymouth, Portage and South Bend, Indiana; and Lima, Ohio.
