South Bend International Airport marked the occasion of Allegiant’s inaugural flight to Fort Lauderdale Aug. 29.
The flight was sold out with many University of Notre Dame fans heading to the football season opener at the University of Miami. Passengers on the flight were treated to a tailgate-themed gate party.
The Leprechaun and Notre Dame cheerleaders made an appearance. There were also themed treats and games.
The arrival of the aircraft was welcomed with a water cannon salute by two of SBN’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting trucks. The aircraft taxied under the water spray arch.
Fort Lauderdale is Allegiant’s eighth destination served from South Bend International Airport. The flights operate twice-weekly year-round. Earlier this month, the airport celebrated Allegiant’s 20th anniversary of flying from South Bend International Airport.
