Michigan-based SpartanNash promotes IU graduate Amy McClellan to executive vice president, chief customer officer.

SpartanNash names new executive VP

Amy McClellan is SpartanNash’s new executive vice president, chief customer officer.

The change marks McClellan’s third promotion with the Michigan-based company. She most recently served as senior vice president, chief marketing officer.

In her new role, McClellan will oversee the company’s national accounts. She will also be responsible for merchandising, sales and customer service.

Before joining SpartanNash, McClellan was senior vice president, retail of Martin’s Super Markets. She was a customer of SpartanNash until the company acquired the chain in 2019.

McClellan started working at Martin’s in high school as a part-time cashier. She worked in a variety of roles before advancing to leadership in marketing, merchandising and operations.

“As a former wholesale customer herself and a grocery industry veteran, Amy brings tremendous breadth and depth of experience to this role,” SpartanNash CEO Tony Sarsam said in a press release.

McClellan is a two-time Top Women in Grocery honoree. She was selected as a NextGen 40 Under 40 award winner by Progressive Grocer in 2019.

McClellan earned her undergraduate degree in business marketing and advertising and her MBA from Indiana University.

McClellan’s promotion follows the upcoming departure of David Sisk. Sisk is SpartanNash’s current executive vice president, chief customer officer.

“David has been a thoughtful People First leader and a supportive partner and advocate for SpartanNash customers,” Sarsam said. “We are grateful for his contributions and wish our friend the best in his next chapter.”

SpartanNash is a food distributor and grocery store retailer. They serve wholesale customers and operate 144 brick-and-mortar grocery stores. Locations include Elkhart, Goshen, Granger, Mishawaka and South Bend.

SpartanNash is based in Byron Center, Michigan. SpartanNash is a merger of two grocery retailers: Spartan Stores and the Nash Finch Co. Nash Finch was established in 1885 when three brothers opened a small candy and tobacco store in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota.
