Career opportunities abound in the trades, but students might not realize their earning potential. With that premise in mind, the third annual BLDG Trades Day @ ND will feature more than 70 professionals who will share their expertise.
More than 1,000 students from 27 area high schools are expected March 12 at the University of Notre Dame’s Stepan Center. They will get the chance to learn more about a career in the trades, what skills they will need and success stories. Exhibitors from roofers to unions to construction companies will offer hands-on activities and share their experiences.
“Connecting young people directly with professionals in the field strengthens the bridge between education and career,” said Tony Polotto, senior director of construction and quality assurance at the University of Notre Dame, in a press release. “These hands-on experiences introduce students to meaningful, high-demand career paths while deepening collaboration between schools, industry leaders and the chamber to strengthen our region’s talent ecosystem.”
The University of Notre Dame’s facilities design and operations team, the Michiana Area Construction Industry Advancement Fund, St. Joseph Valley Building Trades and the South Bend Regional Chamber are partnering to host the day's events.
“BLDG Trades Day @ ND is about shining a spotlight on the tremendous opportunity within the building trades and reinforcing just how essential this industry is to our region’s economic momentum,” said Jeff Rea, South Bend Regional Chamber president and CEO. “From infrastructure to innovation, skilled trades professionals are building the future of our communities every single day. This event helps students see those pathways clearly and understand the impact they can make right here at home.”
The public is also invited to attend the event between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. March 12. Find a list of exhibitors here, and a parking map here.
