Jon and Katrina Lawson recently started a Right at Home franchise to serve South Bend’s senior community.
Jon Lawson is a former attorney. He worked in commercial litigation for 18 years. Katrina Lawson worked in marketing. The Lawsons moved in 2014 from New York to South Bend to raise their three children.
“We set roots here and enjoy the relaxed lifestyle and family-friendly environment and thus, wanted to stay in the area,” Jon Lawson said.
The opportunity to start and grow a business with a support system attracted the Lawsons to franchising.
“Franchising gives you the opportunity to be in business for yourself but not by yourself,” Jon Lawson said. “That ability to learn from others in the system and work with Right at Home appealed to us the most.”
Right at Home offers in-home care to seniors and adults with disabilities who want to live independently. Driven to be part of the village caring for seniors in the community, the Lawsons met with representatives from Right at Home.
“They were very knowledgeable and welcoming, and seemed more interested in understanding our reasons for wanting to work with seniors than in trying to sell us territory,” Jon Lawson said. “We appreciated Right at Home’s holistic approach.”
The Michiana area was an available territory. The Lawson’s Right at Home office serves South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Osceola, Elkhart and the surrounding areas.
Right at Home was founded in 1995. Most Right at Home offices are independently owned and operated. The offices employ and supervise screened and trained caregiving staff. Right at Home’s headquarters are based in Omaha, Nebraska. The company has over 700 franchise locations in the U.S. and five other countries.
