Downtown Dowagiac’s third annual summer festival and barbecue competition will take place July 18-19.
The competition will feature an amateur division sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society.
The summer celebration brings the community together with live music, dance performances, interactive children's entertainment, games and food trucks.
The town encourages community members to gather a crew and fire up the grill for the barbecue competition. Everyone is welcome to join the backyard division. The KCBS-sanctioned event brings together teams and certified judges from across the country for a day of friendly competition and community spirit. Judges will crown a grand champion and reserve champions. They will award cash prizes to the top three teams in both the ribs and chicken categories.
Festival attendees can also stroll downtown for summer sales at local specialty shops, discover artisan booths and connect with community organizations and commercial vendors.
Southwestern Michigan College’s annual Steve’s Run kicks off Friday evening, in the heart of downtown.
