The Elkhart Parks & Recreation Department celebrated the opening of its new 18-hole disc golf course with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 20.
The disc golf course is located between Lundquist-Bicentennial Park and Island Park. It is free to play and targeted towards families and beginning players. The course is listed on UDisc, allowing players to track scores and find local disc golf opportunities.
“We are blessed to have wonderful greenspaces throughout the City of Elkhart, and one of our main goals is to activate them,” said Jamison Czarnecki, Elkhart Parks & Recreation superintendent, in a press release. “Disc golf is an equitable, low-barrier sport that will bring a new experience into the downtown area.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from local officials and a brief demonstration of the course. Attendees were encouraged to bring their own discs and enjoy the course after the event.
The creation of the Island Park Disc Golf Course is part of the city’s commitment to expand recreational opportunities and enhance the quality of life for Elkhart residents.
