Stepping Stone Shelter based in Michigan City has a new logo that better reflects their mission of helping survivors of abuse, said Kalah Riley, Stepping Stone Shelter’s executive director.
“We felt that we needed our logo to communicate who we are as a survivor-focused community, how we approach care and support, and the areas of need that we serve,” Riley said in a press release. “Each color was specifically chosen with meaning in this logo. Purple represents domestic violence, blue represents human trafficking, teal represents sexual assault and orange represents teen dating violence.”
The shelter, which is 42 years old, also launched a website blog in March that offers educational services and support for the shelter's community. Topics explain different kinds of abuse, including financial, psychological and domestic violence.
“These are not isolated issues and events; these stories belong to everyone in the community,” Riley said. “When we work to educate our community on what human trafficking or domestic violence can look like, or how to support a survivor, our entire community benefits.”
The shelter also started an Instagram account, handle @steppingstonesheltermc, along with a monthly newsletter. It also created a series of print brochures that will be available in the community.
“The goal is simple but impactful, we want and need to reach across communities, and across generations to meet survivors who need us, and those who want to learn more about the work we do, as well as supporters,” Riley said.
The nonprofit was founded in 1983, and operates a 24-hour crisis hotline at (866) 879-4615.
