South Bend-based LOGAN Community Resources is expanding therapy services by partnering with Lake Michigan College.
LOGAN will provide services in classrooms and throughout the college’s Benton Harbor campus to foster a variety of developmental opportunities.
Through the partnership, LOGAN will provide therapeutic supports, such as autism therapy, social skills groups and community therapy groups developed to meet the diverse needs of the community. Lake Michigan College students in training to be registered behavior technicians can earn on-site practicum hours in the LOGAN rooms.
“Having the LOGAN center here on campus is an amazing opportunity for us and our students,” said Doctors Mya Hernandez and Amy Scrima, Lake Michigan College psychology professors, in a press release. “We have already started planning new ways to incorporate their important work into our classes and increasing practicum options, which will be a game changer for students who couldn't participate in the past due to transportation limitations.”
Hernandez and Scrima have been working with the LOGAN center for years. The center provides opportunities for students to learn more about applications of Behavior Analysis for their future careers. Students also learn how they can impact lives in their own communities now.
“LOGAN clients are gaining so many new learning opportunities through this amazing partnership,” Kristin Wier, chief program officer, therapy services for LOGAN, said. “They have opportunities to practice new transitions, communal eating in the college cafeteria and activities in the library.”
Expanding LOGAN's services to Lake Michigan College reflects the organization's mission of providing life-changing support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities while serving families closer to home. The on-campus therapy services will be available 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
LOGAN Community Resources works to empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve their desired quality of life by providing the support services they and their families need.
