Indiana University South Bend has named a search committee to help identify its next chancellor.
Longtime chancellor Susan Elrod announced that she will retire in December.
The chancellor is responsible for academic, student, financial, development and administrative aspects of the campus.
Elrod began serving as chancellor in July 2019. During her tenure, she developed a campus strategic plan and spearheaded several initiatives to transform the campus.
Elrod led an effort to purchase the Engman Public Natatorium site as a permanent home for IU South Bend’s Civil Rights Heritage Center. She cultivated philanthropic and local economic development funds to support the creation of the Dwyer Healthcare Simulation Center and a Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Under Elrod’s leadership, the campus achieved a Top 10 Military Friendly School designation. It was ranked sixth in the nation among small public colleges and improved in U.S. News Social Mobility Rankings.
“I am proud of the many accomplishments that we have achieved together to strengthen IU South Bend and accelerate its impact as an even greater force for education, social mobility and the public good in north central Indiana,” Elrod said in a press release.
Storbeck Search, one of IU’s executive search partners, will conduct the search for the chancellor.
