Benton Harbor site lands spot in accelerator

Lake Michigan Industrial Park – Site North B in Benton Harbor, Michigan, will participate in in Indiana Michigan Power’s Future Ready Sites Accelerator.

The project was one of 10 applications, of which only five qualified. Two were based in Michigan.

“This selection recognizes the intentional, data-driven work that has already been completed at Lake Michigan Industrial Park,” said Jillian Nadolski, strategic projects manager at Cornerstone Alliance, in a press release. “The site readiness assessment provided a clear understanding of the site’s strengths and remaining opportunities.”

Participation in the accelerator will help Cornerstone prepare Site North B for industrial investment. The site already has undergone readiness work through the Michigan Economic Development Corp.’s Strategic Site Readiness Program. The preparations helped Cornerstone land the spot in the accelerator program.

In 2025, Abonmarche conducted a site readiness assessment commissioned by Cornerstone. It noted the site's proximity to transportation and utilities as assets, and also pointed out investments needed to make the property useful for potential use.

“The Future Ready Sites Accelerator allows us to build on that foundation and take the next steps necessary to position Site North B for investment that delivers long-term value to our communities,” Nadolski said.

The Lake Michigan Industrial Park includes 15 parcels on 827 acres in Benton Harbor.

Other sites that qualified for the accelerator include:

  • DeKalb County Airport Site in Auburn, Indiana
  • Muncie Industria Centre Expansion in Muncie, Indiana
  • Mattawan Life Sciences Park in Mattawan, Indiana
  • LJC Farms Site in South Bend, Indiana

Cornerstone Alliance is the economic development organization that serves southwest Michigan. Itss 2025 strategic plan for Berrien County, Michigan, includes site development as a priority.
