Ancora chose Weigand Construction to serve as the general contractor of the downtown South Bend project Colfax Corner.
The project will revitalize the historic South Bend Tribune building and turn it into a business hub that is anchored by the University of Notre Dame.
“We selected a contractor that has a real stake in the outcome of this project,” said Josh Parker, CEO of Ancora, in a press release. “Weigand understands the regional market, has longstanding relationships with local subcontractors and trades, and brings the kind of hands-on investment that adds value beyond the job site. For a project designed to serve this community, it mattered to us that the work be carried out by a team that’s part of it.”
Colfax Corner is part of the the Tech and Talent District, a main tenant of the Downtown South Bend Master Plan.
“The Tribune has been a cornerstone of Colfax Avenue for nearly a century,” said Brian Blight, senior project manager overseeing construction operations. “We’re proud to help preserve that legacy while supporting a project designed to encourage innovation, collaboration and continued investment in downtown South Bend.”
The project includes 202,000 square feet of new and renovated construction. Demolition and site preparation are slated for completion by summer 2026.
The Tech and Talent District received a $30 million grant in August 2024 from Lilly Endowment Inc.
