The DeBartolo Performing Arts Center in Notre Dame is inviting the public to a Juneteenth Celebration and Resource Fair June 13.
This year marks the center’s third Juneteenth commemoration.
The free event will feature about 50 local businesses and organizations to support. Food trucks will serve bites while attendees enjoy music spun by a live DJ.
Juneteenth commemorates the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas. Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, June 19, 1865, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Proclamation. Juneteenth represents the country's second Independence Day.
The Juneteenth Celebration and Resource Fair will take place 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 13, at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center in Notre Dame.
