Dwayne Powell Jr. is no stranger to building community. His new role as community development manager for Old National Bank's Northern Indiana and Michigan regions fits perfectly into his background in service.
In his new role, Powell, who also becomes a vice president at the bank, will strengthen outreach and community initiatives for underserved areas. The bank’s community development managers build partnerships and promote financial education. Their work impacts low-to-moderate-income individuals, small businesses and majority-minority communities.
“Dwayne is a talented and compassionate leader who is dedicated to strengthening and uplifting the communities we serve,” said Stephanie Roland, senior vice president and community development director, in a press release.
Powell previously served as the vice president of community development and a community development officer for PNC Bank in Kalamazoo. Prior to working in the banking industry, he was the neighborhood business and special projects coordinator for the city of Kalamazoo.
A Kalamazoo native, Powell founded the Greater Kalamazoo Business Resource Group and a $2 million community investment business development fund. He also started the city’s first Black-owned business expo, hosting 40 vendors and over 700 attendees. Powell served on multiple boards in the Kalamazoo area, including the Urban Alliance Inc. and Central Michigan University Research Center.
