North Central Indiana projects receive $42.5M in READI 2.0 funds

Thirteen projects in North Central Indiana will received $42.5 million in Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative 2.0 grant funds.

The Northern Indiana Regional Development Authority announced the grants during its Dec. 18 meeting in Elkhart.

โ€œREADI 2.0 is an incredible opportunity for the Region to build on the successes of READI 1.0 and Regional Cities funding,โ€ said John DeSalle, chair of the RDA, in a press release. โ€œWe had more than 50 projects apply, totaling more than $250 million requested. With this batch of projects selected for funding, I expect we will see many of our Regionโ€™s greatest needs addressed.โ€

The projects are projected to bring $613 million in investments related to the projects. The projects are:

  • Culver Community Youth Centerย in Culver, Marshall County โ€” $300,000
  • Tri-County Workforce Home Ownership Initiativeย  throughout the Region โ€” $4.1 million
  • Michigan & Monroe Arts District in South Bend, St. Joseph County โ€” $3.7 million
  • Cherry Creekย in Goshen, Elkhart County โ€” $4.5 million
  • Bremen GROWTH Project – Greenway, Recreation Center, Opportunities for Wage growth, & Transformational Housingย in Bremen, Marshall County โ€” $3.737 million
  • Master Plan Phase 3 – Big Cat Tracks (South Bend, St. Joseph County), $1 million
  • 100 Center Historic Revitalization Project (Mishawaka, St. Joseph County), $5.64 million
  • YMCA Childcare Network (South Bend, St. Joseph County), $220,000
  • Elkhart River District 2.0 (Elkhart, Elkhart County), $9.5 million
  • Riverfront West (South Bend, St. Joseph County), $5.64 million
  • Western Avenue Transformation District (South Bend, St. Joseph County), $3.61 million
  • Heartland Arts Center Expansion Project (Plymouth, Marshall County), $500,000
  • New Carlisle 2.0 (New Carlisle, St. Joseph County), $78,000

Gov. Eric Holcomb's 2023 Next Level Agenda included $500 million more for READI 2.0 funds. The South Bend โ€“ Elkhart region was one of six regions to receive $45 million in READI 2.0 funds.
