Michigan City to Host Preview Event for Tryon Meadow Development

Community leaders and development partners will gather on April 2 for a preview event showcasing Tryon Meadow, a new workforce housing development in Michigan City. The event will take place at Shady Creek Winery from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Tryon Meadow represents a $43.8 million investment aimed at expanding the region's housing supply. The development will feature a mix of single-family homes, townhomes, and apartments, designed to support the growing workforce in Northwest Indiana.

Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch expressed the city's enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Michigan City is proud to support the Tryon Meadow development as a meaningful step forward in expanding quality housing options for our residents.”

The development will be executed in two phases, with the first phase including 19 single-family homes, 36 townhome units, and 64 rental units. The second phase will add 15 single-family homes, 20 townhome units, and another 64 rental units. The design emphasizes privacy and community cohesion, with no backyards facing each other.

Clarence Hulse, Executive Director of the Economic Development Corporation of Michigan City, highlighted the importance of the project, saying, “Tryon Meadow adds an important element to housing options in Michigan City with a mix of rentals, townhomes, and single-family homes.”

The project has received strong support from local government and economic bodies, including the establishment of Michigan City's first residential Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district. John Kavchak, Managing Member of Tryon Meadow LLC, noted the collaboration between public and private sectors, stating, “Tryon Meadow is a case study for the nation of what happens when the public and private sectors work together to create thoughtfully designed workforce housing.”

The preview event will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn more about the development and connect with the partners involved in bringing the project to life. Interested individuals can register to attend the event and gain insights into the future of housing in Michigan City.
