Melissa Smith-Watkins' new job is more than developing training programs for Horizon Bank. She is tasked with promoting a culture of continuous learning.
Smith-Watkins will serve as assistant vice president and retail banking training director, according to a press release.
Her background supports that promotion. She joined Horizon Bank in 2022 as the learning and development programs manager. She also worked as a program director at a nonprofit for 15 years. She has experience in human resources, too, where she developed training programs for new hires.
Those skills will come in handy when she leads the design and delivery of training programs for retail banking associates.
Smith-Watkins earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Bethel University. She also served on Horizon’s Voices of Pride Steering Committee for two years and volunteered at the Starke County Youth Club and the La Porte YMCA.
Horizon Bank, which has headquarters in Michigan City, has branches in Indiana and Michigan.
