Franciscan receives Pinnacle Award

Mishawaka-based Franciscan Alliance recently received the Pinnacle Award from the KLAS Arch Collaborative for effective technology use.

The award recognizes health systems for effectiveness and user experience with their electronic health records systems.

Franciscan Alliance ranked in the 98th percentile for physician experience among 126 health systems surveyed that use the Epic electronic health records system.

“Franciscan Health’s Epic system is a powerful tool supporting the work our physicians do and this recognition from the Arch Collaborative affirms we’re using it to the best of its capability,” said Dr. Joseph Schnecker, chief medical information officer, Franciscan Alliance information services, in a press release. “User experience is a major focus of this survey and our ranking shows that not only are we empowering our providers to do their job efficiently but making it easy and convenient to do so.”

The Arch Collaborative at KLAS Research is a group of health care organizations committed to improving the electronic health records experience for clinicians. Through standardized surveys and benchmarking, health care organizations collaborate to find best practices for reducing burnout, increasing efficiency and accuracy and improving patient care.

“This recognition highlights our commitment to improving the experience of our providers,” Tina Patterson, Franciscan Alliance administrative director of clinical informatics and information services education, said. “We couldn’t have done it without our outstanding Franciscan Health team.”

Franciscan Health conducts one-on-one sessions with providers to support electronic health records training. The health care system also creates short informational content for physicians in lieu of long training modules.

Franciscan Health previously completed internal surveys with providers about their electronic health records. Franciscan Health joined the Arch Collaborative in 2018 to gauge how the system matched up against other health care systems.

“These organizations recognized with our KLAS Pinnacle Award have reached a level of physician or nurse effectiveness with the EHR that few organizations have achieved,” Adam Gale, KLAS Research CEO and cofounder, said. “They have both learned from and contributed to Collaborative-verified approaches to improving EHR experience. This is a win for nurses, physicians and ultimately their patients.”
