Allegiant announces new routes

Allegiant Travel Co. announced a new route from South Bend International Airport to Fort Lauderdale / Miami starting Aug. 29.

Allegiant will launch additional routes to six cities throughout the country this fall. The airline also added an intrastate route for travelers in Tennessee.

“This expansion caters to passengers and communities we feel have been overlooked by other carriers,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant chief commercial officer, in a press release. “Allegiant's unique business model, connecting small-to-medium sized cities to vacation destinations, creates accessible travel options not otherwise available in what we believe are underserved markets. We know travelers enjoy the convenience of nonstop flights departing from their neighborhood airport.”

Mike Daigle, South Bend International Airport CEO and executive director, said the airport is thrilled with Allegiant’s choice to offer year-round flights to Fort Lauderdale from South Bend.

“This flight gives our community the much-requested nonstop access to the southeast side of Florida including Miami and West Palm Beach,” Daigle said.

Allegiant’s expansion includes nonstop routes from McGhee Tyson Airport in Tennessee, Key West International Airport in Florida, Gulf Shores International Airport in Alabama, Appleton International Airport in Wisconsin and Des Moines International Airport in Iowa.

Allegiant Air is based in Las Vegas. The airline was founded in 1999. It links travelers in small-to-medium cities to vacation destinations via nonstop flights.
